Want to gain visibility for your new venture? Are you working on something and need to market yourself so the world can see it?!
When it comes to marketing yourself, you can’t be stopped by fear. You may lack the confidence to step out and show the world what you’re doing for fear of judgment in many ways. Sis, that won’t get you anywhere.
The Currency of Authenticity
When your friend finds out you needed help with something, but you did not ask them, the first thing they say is “you should have told/asked me”. The common response is, “I didn’t want to bother anybody”.
Remember that time you felt like you should say something to someone, but you hesitated and never said it for fear of “bothering” them? I know we all hate feeling like we are inconveniencing someone or bothering them.
Yes, most people are busy and preoccupied. But, you would be surprised by how the right people will actually welcome you to bother them. This is part of what I call the currency of authenticity.
When you get clear on what you are doing, why you are doing and who you are doing it for, you will begin to attract your target customers. When you are authentic in what you are doing, your people will gravitate toward you and you will find yourself surrounded by exactly the right people.
Why it is Important to Gain Visibility
The easy answer to this question is that visibility = more people served = more money. However, for many of you reading this, money, in and of itself, is not the motivator that will move you to put yourself out there. Instead, you probably need to hear and believe these words: THE WORLD NEEDS WHAT YOU HAVE!
Maybe you just started a new small business or you want to start a blog. Whatever you’re trying to do, your goals and the success of your ventures rely on the fact that you must gain visibility and interact with people. The gifts that you have to offer the world cannot be hidden under a rock. You have a duty, as a steward over your gifts, to serve the people you are meant to serve.
Yes, making money is necessary and important, but even greater than making a dollar is your responsibility to use your given gifts as intended.
Before I started my blog and business, I was the type to fly under the radar, which is why I coined myself “The Former Shrink-back Queen”. Like most people, I didn’t want to be “that person”. You all know that person who is always selling something or pops out of nowhere with a new venture. My own anxieties convinced me that I shouldn’t draw any attention to what I was doing, because people would be annoyed. I could have decided to keep hiding my gifts and talents or make the leap and start taking up space in the marketplace. I decided that had to face the reality that it is ultimately irresponsible and a slap in God’s face to let fear and anxiety stop me from even trying.
What decision are you going to make?
Overcoming Fear of Marketing Your Business
So how do you get over the fear of putting yourself out there to gain visibility? Let’s break this down. If you have ever spent any time on social media, in a crowd of people, or even in a normal conversation, you have witnessed people putting themselves out there through sharing.
Person A shares about the new face serum she just tried that works wonders. Next, Person B shares that he just tried a new restaurant and it was amazing. Then, Person C shares that her kids got on her nerves all day today. Person D shares that he just started working as a virtual assistant and is looking for new clients.
The one thing all these people have in common is that they all chose to share something with other people. As the person listening you can either engage or not. We have the freedom to choose to share and we have the freedom to choose how we respond to what others share. The striking truth is that every single person in the world is sharing something, even if they don’t own a business.
If the world can tolerate that girl sharing about her dog every day or that guy sharing silly memes all day, the world can surely handle the value you have to share. Accept that you belong here and you deserve to take up space!
The Mindset Shift You Need to Gain Visibility
People hear the word “bother” and immediately think it is a bad word. I get it. But a very positive synonym of the word is “Effort”. That made me see the word “bother” in a completely different light. So basically to bother someone is simply making the effort to share something with them. I am here for that and you should be too!
If you can think of what you are doing in a more positive way, you won’t be so afraid to do it. Believe that someone’s solution, healing, or positive life change is directly connected to you using your gifts and doing what you do best. Operate in your greatness with authority. What I mean by that is you have to view what you are doing as necessary, not just as a hobby.
Nobody will know what you do unless you tell them what you do!

Boldly tell the world what you are doing like you are the best to ever do it. Talk to everybody about it. Make the effort to share with everyone! If someone asks you a question and you can include something about your new venture in your response, DO IT! Don’t be afraid. THIS is a great book to read for gaining courage.
