Why Do I Feel Stuck?
When you are feeling stuck, it is often because you are frustrated and feel that you are taking too long to see the results of the work you are putting in.
I recently went live on Instagram talking about how I was feeling stuck in my own business. Yes, this happens to even people like me who help others get unstuck. Honestly, it is during my own times of feeling stuck, that I get the ammunition I need to help others. Funny how that works, huh?
My friend @desirae.ofori recently sent me her podcast episode about Hidden Gems. In this episode, she talks about how God is preparing us for the day we are no longer hidden. This episode made me think more about how I had been feeling stagnant because my business isn’t growing at the rate I expected.
After listening to her podcast, I went into my prayer journaling time, and the thought of how plants grow crossed my mind. I realized how much our personal growth is much like plants. A guide I found on plant growth had a life-changing revelation. I’m sharing my thoughts with you to help you get through moments of feeling stuck or stagnant.
How to improve my personal growth in the new year
Every year before the new year, people across the world establish new goals and start to map out plans of what they want to do and be in the coming year. This is healthy and highly recommended. If we are not growing we are dying. As morbid as that sounds, it is important to highlight. Growth is natural and as long as we are willing and active participants in our lives, we will continue to grow.
The growth of plants is a perfect visual of how we grow and develop as humans. If you have found yourself frustrated about your personal growth, it is likely that you are just mistaken about which stage you’re currently in.
Keep reading for a short synopsis of each stage, but be sure to watch the video in this blog where I go into detail about each stage and how it relates to our personal growth and the times we feel stuck.
Personal Growth Stage 1 (Plant growth stage: Seed)
All plants begin as a seed. The same is with every goal or idea we have. It starts as just a thought (seed) and it is our responsibility to water and nurture the goal or idea to see it come to fruition.
Personal Growth Stage 2 (Plant growth stage: Sprout)
In the sprouting stage, plants begin to take route and eventually break ground. This stage is the beginning of building a foundation for the plant to thrive. In our personal growth, having a strong foundation is key to seeing results.
Personal Growth Stage 3 (Plant growth stage: Growth & Vegetative)
Plants spend a good amount of time in the growth and vegetative stage. More growth will begin to happen above ground, but still, the bulk of the growth will be happening underground. As the roots are strengthened, the leaves, stems, and branches are also beginning to get strong.
In our personal growth, there may be a great deal of work that has to happen before we can see our dreams become reality. We may be in this phase for quite some time, expecting harvest-like results. However, as AGrowTronics explains, in this stage, it is not yet time for flowers.
You may feel the most stagnant during this stage, but just know, as you continue to work, your foundation is getting stronger, even if you don’t see the flowers just yet!
Personal Growth Stage 4 (Plant growth stage: Reproductive)
During this stage, plants are now focused on flowering! However, though the flowers may start to grow, the plant, during this stage, is not so focused on growing larger.
In our personal growth, this is the stage where we start to really see some evidence of all the work we have been putting in! It may feel like this is the “harvest” stage, but don’t get ahead of yourself. This time should be more about remaining laser-focused on your greater goal and celebrating how far you have come. Do not try to speed through this phase, or any phase, for that matter.
Personal Growth Stage 5 (Plant growth stage: Pollination)
In this stage, plants begin to drop the seeds that make them stronger and have a better harvest. The help of others is vital in this phase. Just like plants need insects or wind to help with pollination, we need others to help us get to the point of harvest and help us produce more “seeds”.
Personal Growth Stage 6 (Plant growth stage: Harvest)
Now it is time to eat! This is the phase everyone looks forward to. In this stage, plants are now fully grown and ready to serve their full purpose. The same is with us in the harvest stage. We are now able to give what we have been dreaming of giving the world.
The challenge is to stay the course, embrace each stage and not give up!
