Let’s talk about self doubt. If you missed my Instagram reel about 4 self-sabotaging behaviors to push out your life, check it out! The #1 behavior I mentioned to push out is lack of confidence in your abilities aka self doubt.
What is self doubt?
First, you should know that Self doubt is a natural behavior that nearly every human being has experienced. Self doubt happens when you are questioning your amazingness. You know, that thing you do when you second guess if you “deserve it”? What about that moment you are about to put your skills to use, and you hesitate or stop altogether, thinking you aren’t really that good…that is self doubt.
Why is self doubt self-sabotaging?
So what is the use in overcoming self-doubt? The easiest way to explain why self doubt hurts us is because it leads to missed opportunities. Self doubt never leads to a win. If you doubt your abilities or skills, you won’t share it with others, because you feel it won’t be adequate.
Self doubt is ultimately telling yourself you aren’t enough or that you don’t deserve something. We don’t need that kind of energy in our lives! Living day to day with self doubt is stressful and counterproductive to our purpose here on earth. We are meant to use our skills and talents to serve.
4 Meaningful Ways to Overcoming Self Doubt
1. Hype yourself up!
Overcoming self doubt starts with you. It might seem like seeking outside affirmation is the first step, but it isn’t. Admit to and accept the fact that you as a person are amazing. Your skills and talents only add to that.
2. Make positive affirmations a daily ritual.
Using affirmations is a great way to counteract self doubt, because the practice of saying affirmations transforms your mindset. You ever hear the saying “you are what you think”?
Consider these Positive I Am affirmation statements:
I am (insert positive word about yourself).
I am an amazing (insert a noun related to a skill or your line of work).
I am deserving of every opportunity that comes my way.
I am talented.
I am a winner.
3. Put yourself out there
This bold move will definitely kick self doubt to the curb. If you struggle with feeling like your skills aren’t that great, start putting your skills to use at every chance you get. Let’s call it reverse psychology. Not only will you naturally get better at that skill, but you will also become more confident. The more confident you are, the closer you get to overcoming self doubt.
4. Seek support from your village.
Remember, overcoming self doubt starts with you. However, the people in your circle can play a vital role in assisting you on this journey. So, don’t be afraid to tell them about your struggle. The people you trust will be able to serve as accountability partners as you work through overcoming self doubt. They can remind you to hype yourself up, say your affirmations, or put yourself out there! They can even help to remind you of how amazing you are when they feel you need a boost.
Friend, I want you to know that self doubt is not just part of who you are. You do not have to accept it as a staple in your life. Yes, we will all have highs and lows and I do believe even the most confident people have short-lived moments of self doubt. The goal is for self doubt to be more like a fleeting thought and not a paralyzing behavior.
