What does it mean to Trust God?
Curious how to trust God in difficult times? First, let’s talk about what exactly is trusting God? Trusting God is just that- putting your trust in Him. Much like you put your trust in a chair as you sit down. You trust that the chair will hold you and not let you fall. Of course, the major difference is that we cannot visibly see God.
So, trusting in God takes faith and relationship – something you don’t need to trust a chair or other visible things. Once you develop a relationship with God you eventually learn that He will hold you and not let you fall. The more you do this, the more you realize He is trustworthy.
In spiritual language, trusting God takes a level of surrender. It means surrendering your will, your worries, problems, and ultimately your life to Him and allowing Him to work it all out for your good. This is always easier said than done, but just like your relationships with humans, trust builds as the relationship deepens.
What does it look like to trust God?
Let me give you a very recent and practical example. I was recently hosting a business clarity workshop and really desired to have at least 10 people register. I was doing everything I could to get registrants. I even fasted and prayed for over a week. I promoted my workshop through social media content and sent numerous emails to my subscribers. It was all I talked about. I prayed and prayed, asking God to send the 10 people. One registration came through and I continued to pray for more.
They never came.
On the day of my workshop, I finally sat down to create the agenda for the 90-minute workshop. Immediately I started to realize that the workshop would have never worked with 10 people. Had 10 people signed up, we would not have been able to have a real workshop the way I had intended.
Through this situation, I trusted God by not giving up. When I realized that God was not going to deliver on sending 10 people, I didn’t give up. I pushed forward and admitted that God must have had a reason for this and accepted how He allowed the situation to turn out. I didn’t fully understand the reason until after the workshop, but I surrendered my need to know the reason upfront. That is how you trust God.
The Lesson I Learned from Trusting God in Difficult Times
From this situation, I learned that God really knows best. He knew that 10 people would have been too many people for a 90-minute workshop. God knew that 2 would be the perfect number and anything more would have overwhelmed me. He was protecting me from what I didn’t even know. God does this for you as well. Regardless of how bad we want something; God is going to make sure we get what we really need.
Why Should You Trust God in Difficult Times
God sees all and knows all. He not only provides for us, but He also always protects us. Just like I saw with my workshop situation, He knew the ending. With whatever situation you are going through he knows the ending as well. So, when God delays things or ultimately says “no” to our request, we have to trust that there is a reason behind it, even if we do not understand it at that time- or ever, for that matter.
God has promised us that He will work everything out for our good if we love Him. We can rest in that fact. My Dad used to always say, if it’s not good, then it’s not over! I hold on to that thought.
Trusting God When You Don’t Understand
When you trust God, you are giving up your need to always understand. If you could understand everything you wouldn’t need God. It is honestly a gift to be able to rely on someone who has the ultimate inside scoop. It is seriously like the cheat code to life. When you trust God, you don’t have the burden of figuring everything out on your own. Instead, you can throw up your hands and let God figure it out.
The same is true when it comes to trusting God when you don’t know what to do. We can pray to Him and ask for guidance and wisdom. He will give us the answers we need to take the very next step. When we trust and rely on Him, we don’t have to worry about feeling lost. He will lead us, and we can trust that it will always be the best guidance we will ever receive.
Whether you have lost a loved one, or you’re struggling financially – whatever it is, trusting God through the difficult time will be the best decision you could ever make.
