So, let’s talk about this morning routine. If your to-do list keeps you up during the night or you immediately wake up feeling anxious about your to-do list, I feel you girl!
Why is a Morning Routine important?
Simply put, having a morning routine allows you to set the tone for your day. It allows you to enter into a mindset of your choosing; hopefully a positive one. Of course, things may happen throughout the day that can alter your mindset. However, with a positive morning routine in place, you are less likely to be shaken by the happenings throughout the day. Or should I say, you are less likely to allow yourself to be shaken!
Have you ever been jolted up out of your sleep and realize you are late for work or school? I don’t know about you, but that jolting just messes me up. I feel so out of control after that.
It means I had to rush to get myself presentable to be wherever I need to be. It probably also means I have to drive like a maniac trying to cut down my drive time. It could also mean that I have to take that walk of shame for being the late woman. I ultimately want to avoid all of these things!
Without a good morning routine, your days may all feel like you’ve been jolted out of your sleep. But, when you are intentional about your morning thoughts and actions you will be able to make more sound decisions throughout the day, improve your mood, and even increase your productivity.
The best morning routine for busy women
1. Wake up with time to spare.
Whether you use an alarm clock or not, is up to you. Just don’t wake up with only time to get out the door. You should be able to sit in the bed or a bit before actually letting your feet hit the floor. Important: do you best to wake and finish most of your routing BEFORE your kids get up! Trust me, they kill the vibe quick, because they wake up needy!
2. Drink a glass of water before you get moving.
You can check out THIS article to see all the benefits of doing this. Basically, drinking water helps get things going!
3. Pray, read a devotional and/or write in your journal.
During this time, include moments of verbalizing or writing down what you are grateful for. What you do during this time will be what ignites your positive mindset for the day. Here is a simple prayer you can start with:
God, thank you for waking me this morning with purpose. Please remove any negative thoughts and feelings of anxiety. I commit this day unto you. Please help me to accomplish everything I need to for today. Amen.
4. Say your affirmations.
This is yet another step to get you focused on positive thoughts and maintaining a positive outlook about yourself and the day. If you aren’t sure what affirmations you should be saying, you can check out THIS post on affirmations
5. Move your body
Physical fitness has been shown to boost your overall mood and energy. You don’t need to have a goal of losing weight to work out. You can work out even for the mental benefits!
6. Listen to good music or a positive podcast
I love to do this while you are getting ready and dressed. A shower concert always gets my day off to a great start!
7. Drink a glass of warm lemon water.
This has several potential health befits from supporting weight loss to promoting hydration. It is best to do this prior to eating anything, but I can imagine there are still benefits if you need to eat prior to this step.
8. Enjoy a healthy breakfast.
If you aren’t practicing intermittent fasting, make sure you put some good food in your body before starting your day. Also, don’t forget to take your daily vitamins.
9. Tackle your to-do list!
Now that you have finished your morning routine, it is time to start tackling your day like a boss!
Final Thoughts…
As you can see, I saved checking your calendar for the last step of the routine. As a busy woman, I recommend looking at your calendar the night before you so have an idea of what is ahead for the next day. If you are typically an anxious person, I would NOT wake up and immediately look at your calendar or to-do list. This could immediately bring on anxious feelings as you review the tasks, and your mind starts to worry about how you will get it all done.
It is so important to start your morning on a positive note, rather than begin with focusing on the potential stressors. If a certain person stresses you out, don’t call him/her first thing in the morning. If social media makes you feel bad about yourself, then definitely don’t start your morning with that.
Each positive step you take during your morning routine is like adding another layer of armor to ward off any negative energy that might come your way for that day.
